Lily Hargraves Nungarrayi

Lily HargravesLily Hargraves Nungarrayi wurde ca. 1930 in Jila Well geboren, sie gehört zur Sprachgruppe Walpiri Lily ist die zweite Frau von Barney Hargraves Tjangala. Viele Jahre haben sie in Yuendumu gelebt, dort wurde auch ihre Tochter Phoebe geboren. Sie und ihre Schwester Leila lebten mit ihrem Mann - Barney Tjangala in traditioneller Weise und so wurden auch die Kinder groß. Nach dem Tod ihres Mannes heiratete sie Popey Tjapanangka und lebt hauptsächlich in Lajamanu, Northern Territory. Sie ist in ihrer Gemeinde eine Älteste, (senior law woman) die für die Einhaltung der Gesetze bei Tänzen und Gesängen zuständig ist.

Erst 1991 wurde in Lajamanu das Warnayaka Kunst Zentrum gegründet. Vor dieser Zeit hat es jedoch immer einige gegeben, die gemalt haben und zu denen gehörte auch Lily. Seit 1986 ist Lily Hargraves als Künstlerin aktiv.

 

In ihren Gemälden beschäftigt sich Lily mit Mala (Hare Wallaby), Ngatijirri (Bugerigar) , Witi (ceremonial pole)und Ngarrka (Watijarra)(two men), ngapa (water) dreamings.


Lily's Arbeiten sind unglaublich expressionistisch; ihre Farbkompositionen sind ungewöhnlich und energiegeladen. Sie hat eine Vorliebe für kräftige und satte Farben. In ihren Arbeiten finden wir ihre positive Grundhaltung und ihre Lebensfreude wieder.
